Dr. Mahmood Haq is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Michigan State University (MSU). Dr. Haq also serves as the director of the Composite Vehicle Research Center (CVRC) at MSU. He also leads the group on ‘Tailorable Materials and Multi-material Assemblies’ at the CVRC. He obtained his MS and PhD in Structural Engineering and Mechanics of Materials in CEE at MSU. He was awarded the governor’s gold medal for securing the top place among ~2000 students in the B.S. degree at the University of Madras, India.
Dr. Haq also holds adjunct professor positions at MSU in the Chemical Engineering and Material Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering departments. He has research grants exceeding US $30 Million, 9+ patents, 50+ peer-reviewed articles, 200+ conference papers, and 30+ invited talks. Dr. Haq is currently leading a team that designs and develops a lightweight, all-terrain, autonomous vehicle as a part of the $9M congressional grant funded by the US Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC).
Dr. Haq’s research includes funding from the U.S. Army Tank Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC, formerly TARDEC), the U.S. Army Research Lab (ARL), Office of Naval Research (ONR), U.S. Department of Energy (DoE), US National Science Foundation (NSF), American Chemistry Council (ACC) and Industry. His research interests include multi-material joining, additive manufacturing, multi-scale reinforced hybrid/tailorable composites, non-destructive evaluation (NDE), sustainable and green composites, and computational simulation of materials and structures.
