Kelly is currently the Tech Director for Advanced Manufacturing, leading the Advanced Manufacturing, Modernization and Technology (AMMT) organization and reports to the SAS VP of Operations, with a dotted line to the SAS VP of Technology Development and Execution. Kelly and his team are responsible for the strategic planning and development of manufacturing technologies, factory modernization, and industrial engineering initiatives supporting SAS Operations. These initiatives span from traditional lean/6sigma, to alignment of SAS Operations with Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing industry transformations. Before assuming his current position, Mr. Dodds was an Engineering Fellow and the SAS Technology Area Director (TAD) for Mechanical, Materials, Structures (MMS), and Manufacturing. In that position, he was responsible for strategic planning and technology initiatives in a multi-million dollar IRAD portfolio, including Additive Manufacturing, Optomechanical Systems, RF and EO Materials, packaging, and High Energy Lasers.
Mr. Dodds started his career at Raytheon in 2001 as a design lead for uncooled IR detector packaging, and has held positions in numerous functions across Raytheon businesses and Corporate, including Supplier Quality Engineering in Operations and Supply Chain, engineering management in Space EO sensor design, Mechanical design lead for Thermal Weapons Sight, uncooled microbolometer programs, and Technology Area Director in Corporate Technology and Research.
Kelly represents Raytheon on the USC Center for Advanced Manufacturing IAB, Technical Committee for the national Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII), Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) AeroDef Conference IAB, and is active in numerous additional ManufacturingUSA centers. He sits on the SAS RF and EO systems Invention Review Committees, is a member of the Corporate Additive Manufacturing Steering Committee, has co-authored two published papers, and has presented over 11 internal technical papers, and holds 4 patents. Kelly also works to develop University technology engagement and partnership opportunities in manufacturing.
Mr. Dodds holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
