Dr. Dan Sanders develops materials and processes related to metals technology. He began his career at Boeing as a machinist tool maker in 1979 and worked in that position while attending the University of Washington Mechanical Engineering Department (U.W. M.E.). He received a BSME degree and transferred into Boeing Research & Technology in 1985, where he worked as a manufacturing expert in aluminum, titanium and CRES sheet metal fabrication. Dr. Sanders was the technology leader for developing the superplastic forming (SPF) process at Boeing, which now operates one of the world’s largest SPF production centers. He received an MS degree in Engineering Technology (Manufacturing) in 2002 from Central Washington University and expanded his research focus into lasers, robotics, welding, shot peening and is the inventor of several new processes that are currently under development. He completed a Ph.D. degree in M.E. at the U.W. in 2008. He is currently working to develop innovative titanium manufacturing technologies through his affiliation with U.W. M.E. and other research organizations.
