This presentation offers ideas on how the automated fiber placement machines/systems can be innovated even in market dips and uncertainty. The presentation highlights upgrading existing machines, robotic applications, custom configurations and inclusion in hybrid machines.
Historically, AFP has been developed and deployed on large new programs or military applications. This presentation proposes that there are two paths for AFP to take in the near future: first is the continued support and development for larger systems, and secondly, innovate by finally introducing lower cost and custom machines for Tier 1 and Tier 2 customers. Innovation on smaller systems will lead to a larger market acceptance, and in many cases these solutions can be applied back to the larger machines.
