Aerospace structure suppliers face dual pressures of accelerating production schedules and tightening budgets. Vertex Aerospace – Crestview, a leading Tier I/II aerostructures company, is seeking methods to improve the drilling and fastening process in order to improve consistency in quality and safety through ergonomics while reducing cost and lead-time for their customers. Wilder Systems, an emerging leader in flexible robotic automation, is working with with Crestview to validate and integrate a Wilder Systems mobile drilling robot for CH-47 fuselage panel production. In this presentation, we discuss the first production use case, the business case drivers for automation, potential benefits for implementation, system requirements, and initial testing results as Vertex Crestview and Wilder Systems begin deployment of a co-robotics system for mobile drilling.
