Boeing currently has more than 70,000 additively manufactured parts in flight for both polymer and metal across the commercial aircraft and defense platforms. Additive Manufacturing has enabled significant system capability and optimized vehicle architectures.
This presentation provides an overview of the additive manufacturing applications within Boeing, focusing on the high value aspect of additive manufacturing and differentiating vehicle design. Additive accelerates designs to market and increases performance, functionality, and reliability. New materials with superior performance have expanded applications across Boeing, opening new opportunities for adoption.
The adoption of the SAE-AMS framework for additive manufacturing will also be discussed, including the qualification steps in order to expand the supply base and also to bridge qualification over to new machines with different characteristics.
